When Not to Use SIGHTRIGHT: What an Alignment Trainer Cannot Answer

A training aid is useful only when its reference matches the question you are trying to answer.

Knowing when to put the trainer away is part of using it responsibly.

Short answer: do not use SIGHTRIGHT to choose a potting line, diagnose eyesight or a physical condition, fix cue delivery, justify an unsafe layout or check every shot. Use it for a short, no-hit comparison only after selecting a direction, then remove it and match the next practice method to the actual question.

Do not ask SIGHTRIGHT to choose the shot line

SIGHTRIGHT offers a visible reference for a direction that the player has already selected. It does not calculate potting angles, contact points, throw, spin, speed or cushion response. If you are unsure where the cue ball should travel, resolve that question through instruction and ordinary aiming practice before placing the trainer.

Moving the device until a difficult shot looks convincing reverses the process. The trainer should follow a selected line; it cannot prove that the choice is correct. Start with an easy, repeatable centre-table direction, place the aluminium trainer securely and use its silver centre line and two raised visual planes as references. The SIGHTRIGHT placement guide explains that setup without turning it into an aiming calculation.

Do not use it as a vision or medical test

A left, centred, right or unclear observation is a practice label. It cannot diagnose eye dominance, double vision, balance problems, posture disorders or any other medical condition. SIGHTRIGHT is not a medical or vision-correction device, and a visually centred reference is not evidence that eyesight has changed.

Stop a position that causes pain, dizziness, eye strain, headache or other concerning symptoms. Return to a comfortable neutral position and seek appropriate professional advice where needed. A cue-sports accessory should never delay medical attention or encourage a player to force the head, neck, feet or torso into a painful shape.

The visual planes provide a reference; they do not test eyesight or prescribe one body position.

Do not use it where placement is crowded or unstable

Some rail shots, stretched positions, rest shots and crowded table areas do not leave enough space for safe placement. Do not balance the trainer against a ball, rail or another item, and do not accept contact with the cue, bridge hand, clothing or mechanical rest. Choose a simpler centre-table layout instead.

Remove SIGHTRIGHT completely before striking a ball. Follow club and competition rules, keep other players clear of the practice area and do not continue a drill that risks the cloth, balls, cue or surrounding property. If you cannot see and retrieve the trainer easily before delivery, the layout does not suit this method.

Do not change the stance to solve a delivery problem

A stable setup observation cannot explain every miss. Grip pressure, cue steering, timing, tip contact, speed and table conditions can all change a result after the player is down. If the SIGHTRIGHT view repeats but the shots vary, stop rebuilding the stance and separate the delivery question.

The centred-but-still-missing guide shows how to keep reference-line observation apart from the shot result. A qualified coach or safely positioned video may offer useful external context. The SIGHTRIGHT, mirror and video comparison explains what each method can and cannot show without treating any tool as a diagnosis.

A clear setup reference still cannot measure cue delivery, contact or speed.

Do not use the trainer for every shot

Continuous checking can turn a useful observation into dependence. It also makes it difficult to tell whether the player is practising cue sports or simply repeating the same reference picture. A practical block is short: several full-reset walk-ins, one clearly defined comparison if needed, and a written decision.

Store the trainer before normal shots. The rest of the session should include different angles, distances, speeds and table positions without the accessory. One pot does not validate a head position, and one miss does not invalidate a comfortable routine. SIGHTRIGHT cannot guarantee accuracy or improvement.

Choose the method that fits the question

If the question is shot selection, use instruction and structured aiming practice. If it is delivery, use coaching, a simple straight-shot exercise or carefully positioned video. If it is speed control, practise target zones without changing the stance after each result. If the trainer itself cannot sit securely, choose another layout.

SIGHTRIGHT is a sensible choice when you have an easy repeatable line and want to compare the view from standing with the view at address. Keep the cue, lighting, table position and start point stable, reset fully and change no more than one neutral process variable. Then use the independent-practice transfer guide after the trainer has left the table.

Confirmed product photographs and the stated aluminium-alloy construction and 150 × 23 × 18 mm dimensions are available on the SIGHTRIGHT product page. Deciding not to use the trainer for one question does not mean it has failed; it means a different method fits the current task.

SIGHTRIGHT limitations FAQ

Should I use SIGHTRIGHT during a match?

Use training accessories only where the rules and venue permit them. SIGHTRIGHT is most useful in a short, controlled practice block and should be removed before a shot.

Can SIGHTRIGHT tell me where to aim?

No. Select the intended direction first. The trainer provides a visual reference for that selected direction; it does not calculate angles, contact points, spin, throw or cushion response.

Can SIGHTRIGHT diagnose why I miss?

No. It can help you record a setup observation, while aim choice, delivery, tip contact, speed and table conditions require separate checks.

Is SIGHTRIGHT a vision test?

No. It is not a medical or vision-correction device. Stop if you experience pain, dizziness, eye strain or other concerning symptoms and seek appropriate professional advice.
